Europe, explained. One story at a time.

Ownership & Funding

Who owns Europe Unfolded, how it is paid for, and what that means for the journalism. The short answer: one person, self-funded, with no advertisers, sponsors or investors.

An independent, one-person newsroom

Europe Unfolded is an independent newsroom project, owned and operated by its founder. It is not part of a media group, a publishing company or any larger organisation, and no outside body owns a stake in it or directs what it publishes.

How Europe Unfolded is funded

The site is currently funded entirely by its owner. Europe Unfolded carries no advertising, and it has no sponsors, investors, grants or other external funders at this time. There is nothing to sell and nobody paying for coverage.

What that means for the journalism

Because there is no advertiser, sponsor or investor to answer to, editorial decisions — what to cover, how to cover it and what to publish — are made by the newsroom alone, independently of any commercial interest. The standards those decisions follow are set out in our Editorial Policy, and how the work itself is done is explained in How We Work.

If the funding ever changes

If advertising, sponsorship or any other form of funding is introduced in future, it will be disclosed plainly on this page. Any advertising will be lawful, clearly labelled and clearly separated from editorial content, and it will never influence what we report.
